Twist in job hunt...

Last week I finally mustered the strength to break free from my comfort zone. I have been working for the same employer for 6+ years... and man! its time to move on. My strategy, cold call application. Nani kama mimi!

I took a WHOLE day off to refreshe my cv and delivere to ONE prospective employer (a hotel) whom i am assured needs my services. In an effort to be sharp i, got the name of the senior finance person (FC) in the company (the person i would report to) in order to do a "personalised application" with a cc to the human resource.

So i went to a cyber, did a fancy cover letter waxing lyrical about the tourism sector, booming, grown by 35%, 90% bed occupancy, high sales, but inadequate cash in bank. The catch was that i was to ensure the cash came in. I ended it with "Please get in touch". Wow! i gave myself a pat on the back.

Now, what was the FC's name again? er... valentine... somebody. Damn! Anyway to make things easy i started the letter off with Dear Madam. Hah, Its easy to please women bosses. I printed the 2 copies and delivered them to the hotel lobby.

Its a week today since and she hasn't called back. 20 minutes ago i did the wise thing and did a follow up call. "hello may i speak to Valentine?" i ask. "Valentine is busy" the secretary replies. "What time will she be available?" ask i. "Valentine is HE," she retorts. I cooly respond tha t i will call back later and hang up.

She's a he??? I ponder my next move... addressing him as madam may have a negative effect on my move. but he must be used to this kind of error... have to call Mr Madam back by close of biz and its 4.44pm! Do i start with an apology??

'be right back...
